Ron Kenoly’s 1991 worship anthem Ancient of Days has been sung around the world for decades. Through this musical interpretation of Daniel’s vision, Kenoly’s performance inspired reverence and awe, proclaiming the honor due the Ancient of Days. His extraordinary ability to lead others into the presence of God earned him recognition as “one of the greatest psalmists of our time,” according to Pastor Tony Suarez, founder of Revivalmakers Ministries in Blountville, Tennessee.
Investing in the Next Generation of Worship Leaders
Christian Life School of Theology Global (CLSTG)was honored to have Ron Kenoly invest in the next generation of worship leaders through our legacy course, The Priority of Praise and Worship. Bringing more than two decades of ministry experience into the classroom, he shaped and encouraged students with both wisdom and passion. Music director and collaborator Bruno Miranda wrote, “He was never an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader.”
Kenoly’s musical journey began while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968, touring military bases with a pop band. After his service, he performed rhythm and blues as part of a duo with Candy Rae before releasing his first Christian album, You Ought to Listen to This, in 1983.
That same year, he stepped into worship leadership. He was ordained in 1987 and went on to serve churches nationwide. His heart for worship and commitment to excellence led to one of the top-selling worship albums of the 1990s, the 1992 live recording Lift Him Up. In 1997, he received a Dove Award for Best Praise and Worship Album for Welcome Home.
Throughout his ministry, Kenoly emphasized the essential balance between worship and the Word. As he shared in a 2006 interview:
“There needs to be a balance between worship and the Word. If you get all worship and no Word, you have fanaticism. If you have all Word and no worship, you have legalism. And you need that balance. That’s what is going to help us to worship.”
