Following are five recommended ways of conducting a course:
Online, Video & Hybrid Classrooms
- Online courses are done on the students’ schedule via the LMS and do not require any notification to the CLSTG offices.
- Video Classrooms and Hybrid Classrooms are individual online students taking the same course together via the online LMS.
- Students are encouraged to enroll at the same time.
Live Locally Authorized Teacher (LAT)
- No minimum enrollment.
- LAT’s must complete the course 30 days prior to teaching the class.
- The LAT must score at least 90% in order to teach the class
- When teaching the class, they must cover all materials to enable students to pass the examination.
- Students enroll on the LMS.
Live Faculty Instructors
- A minimum of 15 students must be enrolled.
- The local Chancellor or Dean is responsible to contact a CLSTG Faculty partner directly to determine the possibilities for LIVE course scheduling. The Dean’s Office must then contact the scheduling department at CLSTG for final verification of the schedule before it is official, using the Teaching Request form in this manual.
- Live faculty instruction is scheduled through the CLSTG office at the request of the local school’s Dean.
- All requests must be in writing using the Course Schedule Request or Course Request form.
- The schedule should take into consideration the courses already offered at the local school; the Chancellor’s Office recognition of the educational needs of his/her students, and the students’ desires and graduation requirements.
The local school is responsible for the following items when conducting a LIVE course:
- All faculty travel expenses: This includes airfare tickets or automobile travel expenses. In most cases, a faculty partner purchases his or her own airline ticket and receives reimbursement at the conclusion of the course. The Dean’s Office of the local school and the faculty partner make needed arrangements. If an instructor is within driving distance from the school, reimbursement should be made at the current IRS allowable rate.
- All faculty lodging expenses: It is required that the local school provide faculty with “good” lodging arrangements which include dining facilities, laundry, dry cleaning, and shuttle service.
- All faculty meal expenses: If not included with the hotel, the instructor should provide receipts for reimbursement.
- Should the instructor wish to bring his or her spouse, the additional expense is the responsibility of the instructor. Under no circumstance should the instructor request remuneration from the local school for the spousal travel or food expenses.
- The Chancellor of the local school may use Faculty partners for Sunday or Wednesday ministry in the local church. These arrangements, if any, are made between the Dean’s Office of the local school and the instructor.
- Recording of LIVE Courses: Taping by the local school or students must receive approval from the instructor.
CLSTG may authorize qualified individuals associated with local CLSTG Partner Schools to present CLSTG courses. The Chancellor will submit the Locally Authorized Teacher (LAT) Application. Individuals must be selected and approved by both the Chancellor of the school and the CLSTG Office. They may be approved to teach at that local school only and may teach any CLSTG course they are deemed qualified to teach. They will not be paid by CLSTG for teaching the course. CLSTG will provide LAT access to course materials via the online Learning Management System (LMS).
A LAT must be registered as a student in the local school and enrolled in the course he/she is teaching. The LAT will receive three completion units for the course.
Certain courses in the CLSTG curriculum may require the instructor to have specific qualifications or experiences. This includes language courses, creation courses, and others. The Chancellor of the local school will ensure that Locally Authorized Teachers present only those courses they are qualified to teach. He or she should contact the CLSTG Office to discuss this matter as needed.
The CLSTG Office will review the application and will notify the Chancellor’s Office of the local school concerning the approval of a LAT.
LAT’s must complete the course 30 days prior to teaching the class. The LAT must score at least 90% in order to teach the class. When teaching the class, they must cover all materials to enable students to pass the examination.
It is possible for a CLSTG school and their approved LAT to apply for a “LAT Approved Course.” This is a course designed by the LAT just for the local school. A course proposal along with the syllabus, study guide and exam must be submitted to the CLSTG Office. It must be equivalent to a CLSTG course in the type of subject matter being taught and the structure of the course. A LAT Approved Course may be taught for credit by the approved LAT in the local school. Normal tuition will be charged. A LAT Approved Course may ultimately be considered for possible inclusion in the CLSTG curriculum and released to the entire CLSTG network.
Active students who have completed courses in educational venues other than CLSTG or have ministerial experience may receive recognition for their work. This recognition will be given for college courses taken or ministerial work performed prior to enrollment as a student at the CLSTG affiliate. This requires the submission of transcripts, certificates, diplomas and/or a ministerial resume and license to the CLSTG Office for evaluation. The completion units awarded through this procedure are used to help determine the level of placement of the student. This will give the student needed information as to the number of courses required for graduation.
Subsequent Requests
A student may request an Evaluation of Prior Learning (EPL) subsequent to an initial evaluation or in special circumstances (e.g. for a LAT Approved course). A separate request will be submitted and a higher fee charged.
General Guidelines
The CLSTG Office will follow these general guidelines in awarding Advanced Standing for prior learning:
- Individuals must be active students before requesting an evaluation of work for which they hope to receive recognition.
- Advanced Standing awarded is officially applied to a student’s transcript only upon completion of the residency requirement of five courses (15 units) and payment of applicable fees.
- All appropriate documents must be submitted in a single request to the CLSTG Office. There will be fees for recognition of ministerial experience and non-accredited theological education.
- Students gather all transcripts, resumes, certificates, diplomas, etc., for submission to the Dean of the local school. The local school will then send the complete package to CLSTG. Please do not have transcripts sent from other schools and colleges directly to CLSTG.
- A “Request for Evaluation of Prior Learning” must be completed at the local school and signed by the Dean.
- Although the amount of Advanced Standing awarded for ministerial experience may be limited by the number of years of experience documented, the review of material submitted will be concerned primarily with the skills, knowledge, and abilities gained rather than on the length of experience.
Evaluation of Accredited Non-Theological College Courses
Students having earned college credit or degrees in fields other than theology from accredited institutions may receive up to sixty (60) units of Advanced Standing for this work. This placement is determined by the evaluation of transcripts submitted by the requesting student and endorsed by the local school’s Dean. Courses must have a GPA of 2.0 or more (C). Grades of D or below will not be accepted. There is no fee for these units.
Evaluation of Accredited Theological College Courses
Students having earned college credit in an accredited theology program may receive full recognition for their work. This placement is determined by the evaluation of transcripts submitted by the requesting student. Courses must have a GPA of 2.0 (C) or higher. Grades of D or below will not be accepted. There is no limit placed on the number of units of Advanced Standing that can be awarded and there is no fee for accredited theological education.
Non-accredited Non-Theological Studies
Advanced Standing is not awarded for this work.
Non-accredited Theological Studies
Students will attach a transcript for each school or class attended that includes a report of the number of contact hours with a qualified faculty. There is no limit placed on the number of units of Advanced Standing that can be awarded for non-accredited theological education. Courses must have a GPA of 2.0 (C) or higher. Grades of D or below will not be accepted. There is a fee for units awarded.

A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) in higher education is awarded for 10 contact hours of instruction from a qualified faculty in a class that teaches specific skills. CEUs are the primary means “professional development” requirements are met in a variety of organizations.
CLSTG has a variety of classes that qualify for a CEU Certificate (as well as counting toward a degree if taken as a graded student). These courses are indicated in the course descriptions with a CEU next to the course description.
CLSTG is authorized to award professional development Continuing Education Units (CEU) by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as fulfillment for the professional development requirements of faculty and staff in ACSI Partner Schools.
CEU students will receive a Certificate after submitting an application. The request will identify the student’s name and ID number, as well as the course number(s) and title(s) of the course(s) for which the CEU is/are being requested. The CLSTG Office will verify the qualifications of the student and will provide the appropriate certificates.
In an effort to recognize and encourage theological studies from a practical ministry perspective, CLSTG will award completion units for approved ministry activities conducted by students in an affiliate school to fulfill their program requirements. A Ministry Practicum may apply to any active ministry in and/or through a local church or ministry. The “PT960 Ministry Practicum” Course Syllabus will define the overall structure and guidelines to be used for any ministry practicum.
A Ministry Practicum requires students to agree on specific objectives to be fulfilled within this structured, supervised ministry experience. “BIPT960 Ministry Practicum” defines the required hours needed to earn either three (3) or six (6) completion units. Starting with the B.Th. degree level, no more than 10% of a degree level can be made up of Practicums.
Some churches have internship programs that will meet practicum requirements. Internship programs may also include CLSTG courses earning completion units toward a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree. Please contact the CLSTG Office for the use of CLSTG courses and the award of CLSTG degrees for an internship program. The “PT980 Internship” syllabus is available and provides a template for a possible internship. Actual courses used will be determined by the internship director.
